PAS update improves safety
Sage Technology’s Permit Administration System (PAS) has achieved another leap forward in the delivery of safe working practices in industrial facilities.
The latest version of PAS has a new step functionality designed to improve safety by overcoming possible knowledge gaps. As well as generating lists of plant items which must be isolated, the new version also generates instructions for the steps which must be taken to isolate each item of plant. This greatly reduces the risk of permit breaches by providing pre-approved steps rather than assuming that personnel know the correct procedures.
The new restoration checklist in PAS is also dynamically cross-referenced, allowing step actions to change when it is not safe to return an isolated plant item to operation. This protects personnel from the dangers of plant inadvertently being returned to use during maintenance or outages.
PAS has also been enhanced to allow the inclusion of certificates for specialist procedures such as test & prove de-energised, excavation, hot work, work at heights, radiation etc. Certificates are customised for each site and can contain as much or as little permit information as is required.
This ability to integrate all safety documents into PAS means that a complete package of documentation can be provided to personnel involved in isolating plant, as well as maintenance personnel. The valuable feature of being able to attach other static documentation such as drawings, procedures and images, has been retained.
The new version of PAS also includes enhancements to the functionality of PAS’s Standard Isolation Lists, making it even easier to find and manage these controlled documents.
PAS Product Director, Peter Kingwill, said the expert team of developers behind PAS was continually alert to opportunities to increase workplace safety.
‘PAS is proving its worth as a vital tool in creating safe workplaces, and we will continue to update PAS as we identify areas where it can contribute to safe working environments,’ he said.
