PAS development continues

User feedback continues to drive the development of Sage Technology’s Permit Administration System (PAS).

The release and installation of PAS v2.0 was quickly followed by the release of v2.1 with a number of modifications to suit the permit to work processes of various users.

Under the update, users can modify a permit to change its type, i.e. from an access permit to a test permit and back again. This saves time by not requiring the first permit to be shut down for work to continue on the same plant item even when the work is for a different purpose than the original permit.

Two other changes are designed to preserve the integrity of the Standard Isolation List (SIL). One change allows users to lock a SIL to protect its integrity when copying it into a permit. The other change enables users to re-sequence steps based on the order of the original SIL. This ensures that correct switching sequences are maintained.

An extra sensibility check has been built in to enable items to be designated as either a plant or isolation point, or as both. PAS then stops the point being used in the wrong place which would create a potentially dangerous situation. For example, a motor is a plant item and the latest PAS modification will not allow it be listed as an isolation point.

Sage Technology is committed to the ongoing development of PAS as a key safety tool in major plant. This development is guided by the people who actually use PAS, thus ensuring that the developments and modifications are both practical and necessary in the workplace.

Version 2.2.2 and 2.2.3 will both be available during the next four months which will yet again expand the functionality and flexibility of PAS to meet a wide range of permit to work situations.

The PAS User Group was established last year to give PAS users a forum to share their experiences, successes and ideas for developing PAS. For further information, contact PAS Product Director, Peter Kingwill on (03) 5132 2600 or email p.kingwill@sagetechnology.com.au.
